Everyone has questions about managing COPD.
RELIANCE is a study to compare azithromycin and roflumilast
to learn which works best for which patients.
RELIANCE is designed to answer everyone’s questions.
RELIANCE was designed with the help of people with COPD, caregivers, and clinicians. They helped identify critical questions that RELIANCE should answer.
RELIANCE is a head-to-head clinical trial that compares azithromycin and roflumilast to help control COPD attacks and hospitalizations. Research shows both drugs work. What we don’t know is which drug works better and for whom.
Built to fit routine care
RELIANCE is designed to integrate with the routine care of people who were recently in the hospital for a COPD exacerbation (attack).
A decentralized clinical trial
RELIANCE is an example of a decentralized clinical trial (DCT). Decentralizing clinical trials allow some or all clinical trial-related activities to take place at participants’ homes or other convenient locations, instead of having them visit research sites. DCTs are expected to improve accessibility of clinical trials to patients and clinical practices that are typically under-represented in research. Results of DCTs therefore offer the opportunity to develop “real-world” evidence applicable to more clinical practices than would be possible if enrollment of patients into clinical trials relied on patients enrolled through established Clinical Centers with research infrastructures (e.g., research coordinators, nurses, dedicated space to conduct study visits).
Targets reducing uncertainty
Everyone involved in COPD care wants a clearer idea of which treatments will work best for which patients, so that they can stay out of the hospital and live better.
